1st Annual Dine-and-Dish Neighborhood Dinners

Dine and Dish is a city-wide neighborhood-building initiative that invites 50 neighbors to step up as hosts, opening their homes to foster deeper connections right on their street or in their immediate neighborhood. Hosted between February 1st and 7th to align with the spirit of the UN Interfaith Harmony Week, this event encourages conversations with your neighbors where the commitment is simple: choose a weeknight or weekend evening, prepare one potluck dish to share, and personally invite your neighbors to your table.

We’ll send more information to those interested in hosting during the first week of January. In the meantime, please review our FAQ below!

Frequent Questions

What exactly is my responsibility as a host?

As a host, your role is to open your home for one evening between February 1st and 7th. You’ll send out personal invitations to your neighbors (we’ll provide a template), provide a space for the gathering, and prepare one “potluck-style” dish. During the dinner, you can be as formal or informal as you like. We’ll provide you with prompts to spur conversation, or you can just talk about kids, mechanics, and movies.

How many people should I invite?

The goal is to keep the setting intimate enough for real conversation. Most will find that 5 to 7 people (including themselves) works best for a single table, but you are welcome to host as many as your dining space comfortably allows!

Do I have to provide all the food?

Not at all! Dine & Dish is designed as a potluck. You provide one main dish or a few basics, and your neighbors bring a side, drink, or dessert. This lowers the barrier for the host and makes the meal a communal effort.

What if I’m nervous about leading a deep conversation?

Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a professional moderator. We’ll provide dialogue cards that include specific questions designed to ease the group into the discussion. We won’t be talking about faith, as much as we’ll be talking about our places of work, children, schools, and hobbies. We’re just getting to know each other!

Why is this happening during UN Interfaith Harmony Week?

We believe that harmony begins in our own neighborhoods. By hosting during this week, we join a global movement to promote conversation and understanding.

Who should I invite?

We encourage “personal invitations.” This means walking over to a neighbor’s house, leaving a handwritten note, or calling someone on your street you haven’t met yet. The magic happens when we move beyond our “usual” social circles and connect with the people who live right next door.

Does the dinner have to be on a specific night?

You have the flexibility to choose any weeknight or weekend evening within the February 1st through 7th window. Pick the time that works best for your schedule and is most likely to accommodate your neighbors.

How do I report back after the event?

After your dinner, we’ll ask you to fill out a brief “Pulse Check” form. We want to hear a summary of the themes that came up and any “aha!” moments your group experienced. This helps us understand the collective needs and hopes of our city.
